In 2001, 14-year-old superstars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen launched their first and only magazine for young girls. The bi-monthly magazine was not like all the other teen magazines at the time. While many focused on boy bands and good fashion, the fraternal twins looked beyond what's hot and attempted to cover important issues that really mattered. Their first issue of mary-kateandashley arrived on newsstands in April 2001. It was not an entirely serious venture for the girls. They managed to include fun stuff for its readers, such as the recommended lip gloss and occasional interviews with rising celebrities (Nelly Furtado, anyone?). Alas, after only three issues, mary-kateandashley magazine suddenly disappeared. So what happened? Shortly after the last issue left the shelves, a message appeared on their official website telling readers that the publishing company went bankrupt. Whatever the case, the life of mary-kateandashley magazine gave the twins the chance to add "editors-in-chief" to their already lengthy list of achievements. It certainly did not kill their careers. Today, they are in complete charge of their company, Dualstar Entertainment, and have become two of the richest people in Hollywood. Though no longer teenagers, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are still role models to many young girls in our world today. Side note: If you are the proud owner of these three issues, may I suggest to keep them for a little while longer. They are/will be collectibles. Though never printed and released, the

one-page advertisement featuring a chicken crossing a road, the Olsens
assured readers that the next issue would be dedicated to...laughter. |
